VoIP Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
When disasters strike, business communication is often the first casualty. A VoIP disaster recovery plan ensures communication capabilities survive disruptions.
Redstone IP-PBX systems include features supporting disaster recovery including redundancy options, PSTN failover, multi-site networking, and remote management.
Redundancy and High Availability
Hardware redundancy eliminates single points of failure. Redstone REX series systems support 1+1 redundancy for Gigabit-Ethernet ports and AC/DC power supplies. Primary-standby configurations enable automatic failover when the primary system fails.
Multi-Site Failover
Organizations with multiple locations can implement site-to-site failover. If one location's PBX fails, calls automatically route to another location's PBX. Redstone's peer-to-peer networking enables multi-site failover configurations.
PSTN Failover for Internet Outages
Internet connectivity is the most common point of failure for VoIP systems. PSTN failover through FXO gateways provides outbound calling capability through traditional phone lines when internet is down.
Remote Access for Rapid Recovery
Redstone Cloud enables remote management through NAT and firewalls, allowing administrators to redirect calls and implement recovery procedures from any location.
Testing and Documentation
Disaster recovery plans are only effective if they work when needed. Regular quarterly testing verifies failover systems operate correctly. Test scenarios should cover PBX hardware failure, internet outage, power failure, and site evacuation.
